GUATEMALA

Adoption Blessings Worldwide Guatemala Program
is good for many families. Because of
Guatemala's close proximity to the United States
there is a friendship between our two countries
and the travel fees are reasonable.
Many families like the Guatemala program because
it does not require both parents to travel (at
least one parent may travel with a Power of
Attorney from the non-traveling spouse) or
because escorting is an option (Please check
your states' INS law regarding parent travel
requirements and whether or not escorting is
allowed in your state. Families who prefer
escorting should keep in mind that it can add
some time on to processing, making it longer to
bring your child home). While Adoption Blessings
Worldwide recommends that at least one parent
travel, escorting can be
and is a definite
option for families who may have certain
circumstances in their lives which would
possibly preclude traveling. Escorts are usually ABW staff from the USA or from our Guatemala
staff.
Please visit our Guatemala
"Welcome Home" page to see some of our
beautiful ABW children who have been adopted
from Guatemala. We will be happy to refer you to
some of our already-returned families who are
open to sharing their experiences regarding
Guatemala adoption with prospective adoptive
parents. Referrals of special needs children
(older or with medical and/or developmental
concerns) may be available on a case-by-case
basis. Please check with ABW to see regarding
the availability of older children who have
already been made legally available for
international adoption.

ABW continues to accept families wishing to adopt from
Guatemala at this time. We do want potential families to be
aware of the current situation with Guatemalan adoptions before
sending in their applications. We have many healthy, beautiful
babies who need loving families at this time. Please see our
waiting children, as well as our update on Guatemalan adoptions.
